Hello, little friends! Come and sit close. Tonight we have a story in English. The words are small and easy. Listen, and say them with me.
The big lion sleeps
A big lion sleeps under a tree. He is strong. He is the king of the forest. All the animals are afraid of him.
A little mouse runs and plays. She runs here. She runs there. She does not look. She runs on the lion's nose!
The lion wakes up. He is angry. He puts his big paw on the little mouse.
"Now I eat you," says the lion.
Please let me go
"Please, please let me go," says the mouse. "I am small. I am not good to eat. Let me go, and one day I help you."
The lion laughs. "You? You are so small. You help me? Ha, ha, ha!"
But the lion is kind today. He lifts his paw. "Go, little mouse. Go and play."
The mouse runs away. She is happy. She is safe.
The lion is in trouble
One day, some hunters come. They put a big net under the tree. The lion walks and — snap! The net catches him.
The lion pulls. He pulls hard. But he can not get out. The net is strong. The lion is stuck.
"Help! Help me!" the lion roars. His big voice goes all over the forest.
The little mouse comes back
The little mouse hears the lion. She runs and runs. She sees the big lion in the net.
"Do not be afraid," says the mouse. "I help you now."
The mouse bites the net. Bite, bite, bite. Her teeth are small but quick. She bites one rope. She bites two ropes. She bites and bites.
Snap! The net opens. The lion is free!
"Thank you, little friend," says the lion. "You are small, but you help me. You are a good friend."
Now the big lion and the little mouse are friends. They play together every day.
You see, little friends? Even a small one can help a big one. Be kind to everyone, big or small.
Moral: A kind act is never wasted.
Good night, little friends. Sleep well, and dream big.
