Hello, little friends! Come and sit close. Tonight we have a story in English. The words are small and easy. Listen, and say them with me.
A hot day in the forest
It is a hot day. The sun is high. A fox walks in the forest. He is hungry. He wants food.
The fox walks and walks. He looks left. He looks right. But he sees no food.
"I am so hungry," says the fox. "I want something good to eat."
The fox sees the grapes
Then the fox stops. He looks up. He sees grapes! The grapes are on a tall vine. They are big. They are round. They are purple and sweet.
"Oh, grapes!" says the fox. "Sweet grapes! I want them. I want them now."
But the grapes are high. They are very, very high.
The fox jumps and jumps
The fox jumps up. He tries to get the grapes. But he can not reach. The grapes are too high.
The fox jumps again. He jumps higher. But no — he can not reach.
The fox runs fast. Then he jumps big. Up, up he goes! But the grapes are still too high.
He tries again. And again. And again. He jumps and jumps and jumps. But he can not get the grapes.
The fox is tired now. His legs hurt. He is hot. He sits down on the grass.
The fox walks away
The fox looks up at the grapes one more time. He can not have them.
"Oh, well," says the fox. "I do not want those grapes. They are not sweet. Those grapes are sour! Sour grapes are not good to eat."
And the fox walks away. But you and I know the truth. The grapes are sweet. The fox just can not reach them.
You see, little friends? It is easy to say a thing is bad when we can not have it. But that is not kind, and it is not true.
Moral: It is silly to hate what you can not have.
Good night, little friends. Sleep well, and dream sweet dreams.
